Catching up again!
Day 18: It’s Friday and I’m thankful for spontaneous family get-togethers. We weren’t going to go to the lake this weekend since we are going to be there a number of days during Thanksgiving, but we decided to go last-minute this afternoon. JM went up before the kids and I could (we let Sadie finish her nap). We got there just as some family (in-laws and my sister & her family) arrived, and walked in to yummy grilled burgers! It was a fun evening!
Day 19: I’m thankful for the rain. It’s been such a rainy day, and while that can feel a little dreary when it’s an all-day thing, we really do need it.
Day 20: I’m thankful for electricity.
This morning when we got to church, we realized that a number of the buildings around us had no power. I’m not sure what happened, but we were so relieved and thankful when we confirmed that we DID have power on. We had a quick discussion before the service started about how we need to have a Plan B for times when the power might go out. We are extremely technologically dependent (internet, sound, video, etc.), and haven’t really thought through, before now, what we would need to keep one of our services running without the power on. Of course we’d have emergency lighting, but candles might be nice, we’d need an acoustic guitar and someone to play it, extra charts for an acoustic set, lyric sheets for the congregation, extra Bibles (since we wouldn’t have the scripture on the screen), etc. When Mike (my father-in-law and pastor) and I discussed this, I said, “Yeah, I definitely need to work on this. I’ll go email myself a reminder!” Haha! What’s even better is that the power flicked off for about 5 minutes……….only a few minutes after we dismissed the service! You just can’t tell me that wasn’t God keeping it from happening during the service!!
Day 21: I’m thankful that JM and I got to go to lunch yesterday with some old friends. No, they’re not old, but we used to hang with them a little (and the husband played music with us) a few years back. They visited church and then we went to lunch together. It was great catching up on each others’ lives. JM and I kept saying, the rest of the day, how nice of a time it was.
